In the effort to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the Corona Virus Pandemic rampaging the world, the Umuakwu Nsulu born lawyer and the Abia State Commissioner for Works, Barr Bob Chiedozie Ogu has distributed food items to the (Ten)10 INEC Wards in Isiala Ngwa North LGA.
Speaking during the distribution of the relief materials, Barr Ogu said that the gesture was his contribution and support to ameliorate the sufferings of the people at this period of lockdown and to compliment the efforts of the state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu who has shown commitment and unrelenting efforts to curb the spread of this Corona Virus Pandemic.
Barr Ogu charged the representative of the various wards to ensure that the relief materials get to the indigent and vulnerable people in their area while assuring the people that Covid-19 is not a death sentence and urged them to adhere strictly to the preventive measures outlined by medical experts and National Center for Disease and Control (NCDC).
He encouraged them to maintain social distancing and regular washing of hands with soap, make use of hand sanitizer and the use of face mask which is now mandatory.
Relief materials distributed include 74 Bags of Rice, 210 Tubers of yam, a bag of Onions 400kg, 1200 Bottles of Hand Sanitizer, 1200 Pieces of Face Mask and a Cash Donation of 260 thousands naira.
Receiving the palliative materials on behalf of others at Umuakwu Nsulu country home of the Commissioner, Hon Chinedu Okata commended their son and the commissioner for works Barr Bob Chiedozie Ogu for donating relief materials to the people of Isiala Ngwa North at this critical period of lockdown occasioned by the corona virus pandemic.
Also speaking the PDP LGA Party Chairman Hon Godfrey Ogbonna Ede appreciated the commissioner for his show of love especially this time the world is ravaged by Covid-19 pandemic and assured that the distribution of the palliative materials will get to the vulnerables in their different communities.
In his remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Hon Udo Y. O. Nwaogwugwu who arrived almost at the end of the program, applauded the Commissioner for donating the relief materials to the people of Isiala Ngwa North and advised the representatives of the various Wards to ensure that these palliative materials get to the targeted audience.
High point of the event was the distribution and hand over of the palliative materials and cash donation to the Ward Chairmen and Woman leaders of the ten Wards in Isiala Ngwa North.
The event attracted the presence of the Immediate Past Transition Committee Chairman of the council, Chief Armstrong Okoronkwo and some other notables personalities from the council.
