There are heavy tensions in all the local govt headquarters of Imo state as elected APC chairmen and councilors moves to take over the local councils.
Cross Country Reporters gathered that in line with the December 2019 Supreme court judgement which ruled that governors and state assemblies have no power to sack elected LGA chairmen, the APC Imo state today ordered all the councillors and chairmen who were elected during Rochas Okorocha’s administration and sacked by gov Emeka Ihedioha to resume office.
The current PDP government of Emeka Ihedioha, upon assumption of office, had sacked all local government council officials elected under the tenure of former Governor Sen Rochas Okorocha in Imo state.
Presently, the sacked APC councilors and LG chairmen are moving into various local government council areas to take possession and resume office simultaneously.
In Abo Mbaise LGA, the sacked APC local govt chairman and councilors stormed the headquarters and took possession with the help of police, but the DPO drove in few hours ago and locked the secretariat.
A source told Cross Country Reporters that the sacked APC local govt chairman, Hon Chidi Nwaturuocha who had taken possession in his office and resumed duty refused to leave the office when the DPO came in and drove away the councilors.
The DPO got angry and locked the office while he is inside. It is same story in about 19 local govt areas in Imo state. All council areas has been taken over by the APC elected council executives.
While the melee is ongoing, Cross Country Reporters investigation reveals that APC though acting on the recent judgment of the Supreme court to reinstate their sack LGA chairmen and councilors, is preempting the would-be governorship appeal judgement pending at the Supreme court.
“They want to have their men at LG administration, so that if the Supreme court nullifies the election of gov Ihedioha, orders for a rerun, it will be a walk over for senator Hope Uzodimma”, a PDP member who wouldn’t want to be mentioned, said.
Only recently, Father Ejike Mbaka, a renowned pastor base in Enugu, Nigeria had prophesied the removal of PDP’s Emeka Ihedioha from office as Governor of Imo state, predicting a new dawn of “Hope” in Imo state government house.
